Vanessa is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW). She received her bachelor’s degree in social work from Buffalo State College and a master’s degree in social work from Capella University.
Vanessa started her career in the helping profession strengthening families using an ecological and solution focused approach. Her counseling experience was obtained as a graduate student at a mental health agency. There she was able to co facilitate groups to reduce the risk of recidivism for adult males and engaged children, adolescents and adults using empathy and unconditional positive regard. She believes it is important to start where the client is, and this resonates through her interaction with clients served.
Vanessa received training through an approved Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA) consultant agency. This allows her to provide trauma therapy. In addition to EMDR, she uses a combination of theoretical approaches such as person centered, motivational interviewing and psychodynamic approaches.
