Sofia appreciates that individuals, couples, and families have unique problems, and therapy must follow the contours of their lives. She uses a collaborative and eclectic approach to explore stories that clients tell about their problems while seeking the forgotten or hidden strengths that can contribute to solving those problems.

Clients are drawn to Sofia for her engaging style, her deep caring and her effectiveness in helping them resolve and heal troubling emotions and relationships. She encourages her clients to be open and direct about what they want from their significant others and from her. She explores each client’s positive motivations and individual needs in order to help them increase compassion, empathy and closeness.

Her areas of expertise include depression and anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, assertiveness training, relational coaching, couple’s communication and intimacy, affairs and infidelity, work-life balance, and parenting effectiveness. She specializes in working with individuals and couples who are struggling with relationships, marital and sexual issues, together with couples and individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersexual, transsexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ+), as well as couples and families where one or both partners identify as LGBTQ+.

Sofia has successfully treated individuals with histories of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse in both couples and individual therapy. Her approach to therapy is proactive and client-centered, and she uses a comprehensive, integrative approach in her work with individuals, couples and families at all stages of family development, from pre-marital counseling to families with adult children.
